Because sometimes I need to get inspired
Maybe you already knew, but one of the many jobs I can do is taking photographs. In particular, sometimes I work as a wedding photographer. I began in the profession by chance. I used to help my boyfriend in his first weddings as a photographer and I became the Little Helper (it was a joke between us as we’re huge fans of The Simpsons’ old seasons). While I lent him a hand with the objectives and carrying things, he used to let me his old Canon 450D to practise and try taking pics following the instructions he had gave me before (yes, there were a few lessons he taught me about the exposure triangle and composition, very nice from him), and sometimes, he even asked me to take that important pic to see how well I got on.
This 2016 we were going to have many weddings, so I thought that maybe I should make the most of the situation, take it seriously and learn to make proper photos because that could help me in my career. And that’s what I’ve done. And even I still had to use that Canon 450D, I took pics good enough to include in the final selection, which was a very good signal. Finally, we went halfsies with a new camera for me, a Canon 6D, as we thought we had future in the photography. And what a change it was! Completely different and quite a lot easier. So that’s when we saw I could be more than a Little Helper and become the other wedding photographer. And we became equals, a photography couple. Not anymore Edgar and Little Helper.
You see, there are still people out there who can’t understand that you can learn a job, that you are born necessarily with a gift or not and that, if you don’t one have, there’s nothing you can do. I don’t know where I heared this, but apparently the talent is something learnt, something which is a result of months, years of practice. That, that person you look up to maybe has been years in the sector. Anyway, I may be a proof of that, even thought I still have to find my very own style as I have learnt everything from my partner. I’m on my way already.
And even sometimes you find mean people, like in every job, the truth is wedding photography is something fun and a very nice experience. And that’s even better when you come across with people who value and appreciate your work (that reminds me of a very special and nice couple, Silvia and David) and the one which comes later on: the edition process. Yes, that is still an issue in Spain: there’s a huge lack of visual culture and appreciation of creative jobs, something highly paradoxical as we live in such a visual society.
Anyway, below you will find a personal list of wedding and engagement photography artists from all over the world who Edgar and I really admire and take as an inspiration. I recommend to watch the pics with no prejudices at all: you can believe more or less in marriage as an institution or as a way to maintain an economical system or not, but you can’t deny the beauty of the images these artists produce.
